Greenfield

Robert D. Hiatt, 78, of Greenfield, passed away on June 22, 2026. Born on May 2, 1948, in Brownsburg, Indiana, he was born to Robert Biltimier and Dorothy (Portwood) Hiatt. After the passing of his father, Robert was lovingly adopted and raised by Jack Hiatt.

Robert attended North Central High School. On December 22, 1966, he married the love of his life, Verna (Miles) Hiatt, beginning nearly six decades of devotion, partnership, and adventure. Together they traveled, cruised, and opened their home for countless pool parties and cookouts—moments filled with laughter, family, and the joy of simply being together.

In his early years, Robert worked as a mechanic. He later owned and operated Downtown Car Care.

Robert loved fishing with his family, but his greatest passion was golf. Whether on the course with friends or enjoying a quiet round on his own, golf brought him peace, purpose, and pure happiness. Above all, he cherished being a dad and grandpa—roles he embraced with pride, tenderness, and unwavering love.

Robert is survived by his devoted wife, Verna Hiatt; his children, Mark (Heather) Hiatt and Kathy Warren; his grandchildren, Raegan Hiatt, Mason Hiatt, and Jackson Warren; and his siblings, Steve (Lewie Bob) Hiatt and Beverly Goforth.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Joshua Hiatt.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 29th at 3:00 PM, visitation will follow from 4:00–7:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East.

Robert will be remembered for his warmth, his humor, his steady presence, and the way he made every person feel valued. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply and the countless lives he touched.
