Robert Harold Hoover, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2014. He was born on October 17, 1927 in Indianapolis to Virginia Powell. Bob attended Ben Davis High School before joining the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Guam during WWII and was discharged in 1946, achieving the rank of Seaman Second Class. Following his discharge from the Navy, Bob went to work at Rodefeld Co. where he met the love of his life, Barbara Joan Gaddie; they were married on May 6, 1950. Bob was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and loved creating and flying Radio Controlled Model Airplanes. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Barbara J. Hoover; son, Greg (Vail) Hoover; brother, Phil Saxe; sisters, Patricia Perkins, Marjorie Miller, Donna Snyder; and several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Phil Saxe, Sr. and Virginia Saxe; brothers, Paul Saxe, Richard Hoover, William Hoover; and sister, Dorothy Farmer. Funeral services for Mr. Hoover will be held at Flanner and Buchanan – Speedway on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 1pm. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service, also at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. Memorial contributions may be given to the Indianapolis Humane Society.
