Robert G. Frye
81, of Indianapolis knocked on heaven's door saying "it is I Lord" on Friday, April 12, 2013. Bob was born in Rocky Mount, NC on February 13, 1932 to Carl and Thelma (Sykes) Frye. He enlisted into the Army at age 19 and was sent to Camp Atterbury, Indiana (28th Division). After meeting his soon to be wife, Virginia Cox they were married on November 3, 1951.
Bob was sent to Heilbronn, Germany where he and Virginia lived for the next 2 years. They toured Western Europe and upon his return to the "states" went to work as a tool and die maker for Herff Jones Company from where he retired 42 years later. During that time his son, Robert B. Frye (Sally) of Cloverdale, Indiana was born and then daughter Ramona Frye Moyes (Todd) of Indianapolis. This love of Bob's family increased to two grandchildren R. Scott Frye (Holly) of Danville, Indiana and Julie Frye Nuest (Vaughn) of Bloomington, Indiana. Bob lived to see another generation born, Oscar Frye.
Bob was active in his community - former President of Stephen Decatur Baseball Association, Decatur Twp Republic Club, Civic Council and was also elected to the Decatur Twp Board and a member of Aldersgate UMC.
His viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 16th to 4-8 PM with service on Wednesday, April 17th at 10 AM at Flanner & Buchanan Decatur. Officiating will be Pastor Ron Branson. Eulogy will be given by Julie Frye and Vaughn Nuest. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Aldersgate UMC, 5335 W Hanna Ave, Indianapolis 46221.
