Robert “Bob” E. Bauer Jr., 78, of Indianapolis, passed away August 24th, 2021. He was born November 17th, 1942, in Indianapolis, to parents Robert and Margaret (Fries) Bauer.
Bob graduated from Cathedral High school.
He was a dedicated officer and detective for Indianapolis Police Department from October 1963 until February 1986, when he retired. He also worked as a school police sergeant at Indianapolis Public Schools from September 1989 until 2008.
In 1990, Bob met the love of his life, Anna Hamblen, at the police department. They shared 31 wonderful years together.
Bob was a selfless, loving gentleman with a huge heart. He was a valued volunteer for the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No 86 and the Retired Police Officer Association. Bob was an avid and talented photographer. He adored his family and friends and will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
Bob is survived by his lifetime companion Anna Hamblen and daughter Melissa Hamblen; his children Mark Bauer, Michael Bauer, and James Bauer; siblings Stephen Bauer, Lawrence Bauer, Mary Anne Meyer, Frances LaRussa, Margaret Eddings, Angela Campo and Theresa Bauer; his granddaughter and light of his life, Addison Bauer; grandchildren Graham, Max, James “Jimmie” and Elizabeth “Ellie” Bauer, and Axtyn Hamben; his loyal canine companion Okie; and many, many friends.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Bob will be at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East, September 14th, from 4pm-8pm. His funeral will be September 15th, at 11am. He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s honor to Retired Police Officers Association (1525 S. Shelby St., Indianapolis, IN 46203).
