Robert "Bob" Burns 88, of Indianapolis, IN passed away February 06, 2013. He was born December 11, 1924 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. Bob worked for Monumental Life retiring in 1981. He was a veteran, serving in WWII with the 1st Marine Division. Bob received 2 purple hearts as well as 3 Presidential Unit Citations for combat in Guadalcanal, Okinawa and Peleliu. Bob was an avid reader, enjoyed baseball, boxing, IU sports and the outdoors. He was a member of the American Legion Post 38, Mystic Masonic Lodge and Lawrence United Methodist Church. Bob possessed great humility and loved being around his family, especially his grandchildren, who will miss him greatly. He is survived by his son Robert Thomas "Thom" (Linda) Burns, brother Walter (Carrie) Burns and grandchildren Chelsea, Mckenzie and Zachary. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Patsy Burns. Friends may visit with the family 12-2 Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN, with a service beginning at 2 pm. Entombment will take place at Washington Park East Cemetery following services. Bob's family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff at Millers Merry Manor. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Indianapolis, 7929 Michigan Rd. Indpls, IN 46268.
