Robert D. Dunlap, Sr

Robert “Bob” Dunlap Sr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, service, and treasured memories with those fortunate enough to know him.

Bob was proud of his Irish roots and the Midwestern values that shaped him. He believed in working hard and always being there for the people he loved.

Bob proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and as an Air Traffic Controller. His years of military service reflected the discipline and integrity that defined him throughout his life.

To know Bob was to know his love of sports. He rarely missed an IndyCar race, and race weekends were among his favorite memories. He also loved bowling, cheering on both the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and rooting for Notre Dame football. Bob found joy in every season and loved sharing that enthusiasm with others.

Above all else, Bob treasured his family. Time spent together is what he valued most. His quiet wisdom, unwavering loyalty, and dependable nature were gifts that will be remembered long after his passing.

Bob is survived by his sister, Marie DeWitt; his three children, Lisa Heisler, Robert Dunlap Jr., and Mark Dunlap; his seven grandchildren, Alex Branch, Sydney Heisler, Emily and Andrew Gordon, Jordan Stevens, Ethan Dunlap, and Tommy Ritchie; and his great-grandson, Bruce Branch. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Lori Gordon, whose memory he carried with him always.

Though he will be deeply missed, Bob’s legacy lives on in his family and the countless memories that will be held close by those who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held from 2 to 3pm on Friday, July 24th at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, 9001 Haverstick Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46240.

In addition, a celebration of life will be held the next day, Saturday, July 25th, at 2pm at the Brownsburg American Legion, 636 E. Main St., Brownsburg, IN 46112. The family invites guests to wear casual attire and apparel representing Bob's favorite teams and passions: IndyCar, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, or Notre Dame.
