Robert Dicks

Robert F Dicks passed away Friday, March 14, 2014, at home in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was 65. Mr. Dicks (Bob) was born on September 6, 1948 in New Castle, PA, the son of Robert D and Alice (Langguth) Dicks. In his youth he was an avid hunter, trapper, fisherman and golfer. He enjoyed summer vacations in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with his family. He also enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada with his grandfather, Frederick P Langguth. After graduating from Mercer High School in 1966, he attended Aurora College in Aurora, IL where he majored in Economic Theory. Following graduation from Aurora College in 1970, Bob entered the management trainee program at Dollar Savings and Trust Co., Youngstown, OH. He worked in the mortgage department and became Senior Vice President of Lending retiring in November 1992. He was a member of the American Institute of Banking and various fraternal and social organizations. After retirement, Bob reacquainted with a former Mercer classmate, Marci (Hydu) Richards. He moved to Indianapolis to make his life with Marci. They were avid fans of Butler University basketball attending all home games and joining fellow fans on trips to away games and the 2010 and 2011 NCAA Championship. They were diehard Colts fans, and enjoyed traveling to the Super Bowl to see their victory. Bob was also a gardener, famous in his neighborhood for his towering prize tomatoes. He enjoyed collecting and savoring fine wine and spending holidays with his family where they shared wine, prime rib, 2000 piece jigsaw puzzles, cat stories and laughter. Robert is survived by Marci, Indianapolis, IN; his son, Jim, and grandson Nick, both of Erie, PA; his sister Sherry Dicks Blakesley and brother-in-law Don of Mercer, PA; his niece, Kristin Blakesley of Hermitage, PA, and his father, Robert D Dicks of Mercer. Services will be held In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions be made to Ducks Unlimited c/o Bruce Ellis, 18 Courtney Rd, Mercer, PA 16137 or Butler University Athletic Dept, 4600 Sunset Av., Indianapolis, IN 46208.
