Robert D. Jones, 82, Carmel, passed away January 12, 2012. He was born November 2, 1929 to the late Paul and Hattie Jones. Bob graduated from George Washington High School in 1947. He served in the Air Force for four years during the Korean War. He was an instructor in the Radio Electronic Intercept Operations at March Air Force Base in California. Bob was a retired vice president of Merchants Bank/National City after 40 years. He was a Boy Scout leader in the West District for over 15 years, and was chairman of the West District from 1968-69. An avid golfer, Bob was a past member of Woodland Country Club and recently Pebble Brook Golf Course. He scored a hole-in-one eight times. Bob was a member and past director of the Indiana State Seniors Golf Association. He also was a gate captain for the ticket department at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for 15 years at Gate 7. Bob was a Kentucky Colonel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma "Billie" Sawyer Jones, in July 1993. Bob is survived by his children, Rebecca E. Neafus, Brent E. Jones, and Barry D. Jones; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be on Monday, January 16 at 11 AM at Flanner and Buchanan- Carmel, 325 E. Carmel Drive. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 15 from 2-7 PM, and on Monday from 10 AM until service time. Entombment will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Association.
