Robert Coval

Robert L. “Bob” Coval, 86, life-long Zionsville resident, died Friday evening, August 12, 2011. Bob was born in Boone County, Indiana to Kester and Audra Yula Shirley Coval; they preceded him in death as did his brother, Don Coval and his sister, Helen Nicely. Bob was a 1943 graduate of Zionsville High School; he faithfully served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Coval was retired from Indiana Bell where he worked for 30 years before his retirement in 1983. Bob was known for his tireless dedication to the Town of Zionsville and its residents. Mr. Coval was a member and elder at the Zionsville Christian Church. He was retired from the Zionsville Volunteer Fire Department, a department that he was a part of from 1949 until retiring in 1996; he was a 64 year member of the Zionsville Lions Club, a member of American Legion Post No. 79, Charles F. Frank Masonic Lodge No. 760, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, and the Indianapolis Horse Patrol. The most important thing to Mr. Coval was his family. He always led by example. Mr. Coval is survived by his wife Joan Graham Coval; his daughters, Debra Sue McDowell (Ralph “Chip”) and Diana Lynn Phillips (Bob); and his son, Gary Wayne Coval (Ellen). Also surviving are his grandchildren, Laura Ashley Phillips, Christopher Robert Phillips, Matthew Nicholas Phillips, Philip Burton McDowell, Abigail Diane McDowell, Kellie Alyssa Coval, Wilson Graham Coval, and Julie Elizabeth Coval; and his sister Leuttann Williams. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Monday, August 15, 2011 at Flanner and Buchanan Zionsville Funeral Center. A funeral service will be held there at 11 am, Tuesday, August 16, 2011. Burial will follow at Zionsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zionsville Christian Church or to one of the above service organizations with which Mr. Coval was involved.
