Robert Earl Clay, 76, of Indianapolis, IN passed away January 6, 2014. Bob met the love of his life, Barbara E Shewmon in the 7th grade. Both graduated from Warren Central in 1955, married in 1956 and enjoyed 58 years. Bob and his father Clyde, owned and operated Ben Davis Auto Parts for 18 years. In 1973 he began selling insurance for Prudential, later he went to Allied Grocers, then A.G. Insurance with AL Lindsey. In 1995 he was asked to start the Insurance Division for Indiana Members Credit Union of which he was vice president until his retirement in 2011. Bob was a 32nd degree Mason in the Scottish Rite, from Bridgeport Lodge. In his younger days, he was a competitive trap shooter, and was involved with Golden Gloves. He played Bocce in a league with his son James, league golf, bridge, fishing, poker; but his favorite "sport" was gambling. Bob and Barb loved to travel the USA and abroad. Bob was an avid gardener, loved baking his special cookies for his grandchildren and friends. He enjoyed spending time with family gatherings from his favorite chair.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara E Clay and their children, S Greg, Christine, Cathleen, James M, 7 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren Bob is preceded in death by his grandson, Adam Clay, parents, Clyde and Juanita Clay, and brother, Tom Clay.

A memorial visitation will be held Saturday January 25, 2014 at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park North from 10-1pm, with a memorial service to begin at 1pm. Online condolences may be made at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
