Robert George Childs (Bob) of Indianapolis, Indiana, died peacefully at his home on May 6, 2018. He is survived by his wife, three sons, three daughters-in-law, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Born in Bellefontain, OH on January 12, 1928, he attended Tech High School and Purdue University from which he received an Associate of Electrical Engineering degree. After serving in the Army from 1950 to 1952, he was married in 1954 to his wife of 64 years. He worked as an engineer and an electrician at Western Electric in Indianapolis where he earned two patents and was instrumental in developing the machinery that produced the touch-tone telephone. Along with being a member of the Scottish Rite, Bob was an active member of Centenary Christian Church for over 50 years where he served in a wide variety of leadership roles, and most recently was a member at Eastgate Christian Church. The funeral service will be held at Flanner Buchanan- Memorial Park at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 11, followed by burial at Memorial Park Cemetery. A generous and hard-working man, he was well loved and will be missed by many. Bob’s family invites those who want to give a gift in his memory to make a donation to the charity of their choice.
