Robert Paul Carter, 77, of Zionsville died August 9, 2011. Mr. Carter was born February 17, 1934 in Indianapolis to Paul C. and Sylvia C. Mayfield Carter; they preceded him in death. Robert was a graduate of Zionsville High School and a member of the 1953 Regional Championship Basketball team; the only “Sweet 16” team Zionsville has ever had. Robert was known for his tireless work ethic; he was the longtime owner of Carter Van Lines Moving and Storage, a well-known land developer in Zionsville having been an integral contributor to modern day Zionsville. In addition to his work, Mr. Carter had a passion for antiques and toys. In recent years, he shared that passion with the town visitors and residents through the Carter Toy Museum & Ice Cream Parlor on Main St. in Zionsville which showcased his many years of collecting. Mr. Carter was also a member of the Zionsville Kiwanis Club and enjoyed slow pitch softball. Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Sylvia Jean Adkinson Carter whom he wed October 10, 1953; his daughter, Mischelle “Mickey” Lynn Edwards (Dave); his son, Michael Lee Carter; his brother, Russell W. Carter; and his grandchildren, Justin, Rachel, Marcus, and Kelli. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday, August 12, 2011 at the Zionsville Christian Church, 120 N. 9th St, Zionsville, with a funeral service being held 11 am, Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the church, Dr. Gary Straub officiating. Burial will follow the service at Zionsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zionsville Christian Church, 120 N. 9th St. Zionsville, IN 46077.
