Robert W. “Bob” Bork of Indianapolis, passed away on September 19th, 2025. He was 95 years old.
Born on April 2nd, 1930, to George and Burnett Bork of Indianapolis, Bob was a graduate of Howe High School and Indiana University. During his time at IU, Bob rode in the very first Little 500 for Theta Chi fraternity.
After finishing ROTC and graduating from IU, Bob was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia during the Korean War. He married his college sweetheart, Joan “Jinny” Shively on February 21st, 1953 in South Bend Indiana while on leave. They both returned to Fort Lee until Bob left active duty as a Captain.
Returning to Indianapolis, Bob joined his parents’ restaurant business, Borky’s Drive-In located in Broad Ripple. Through the years, the business grew and in 1965, they built Borky’s Colony House, a full-service restaurant that was very popular.
In 1974, Bob decided to leave the restaurant business and joined Massachusetts Mutual, establishing a thriving life insurance and financial planning practice, earning the designations CLU and ChFC. In tandem with his career, Bob maintained his participation in the Army Reserve, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and Battalion Commander and ultimately became Inspector General of the Army Reserve Command.
After retirement, Bob and Jinny were active in many volunteer activities, including Riley Children’s Hospital and tutoring kids at School 55. Bob also enjoyed hunting and fishing, IU football and basketball and most importantly, spending time with his family.
Bob was predeceased by his wife Jinny and is survived by his children Jim Bork (Cathy Ferree), Lee Ann (Rob) Farmer and two grandchildren, Chris and Maddie Farmer.
The family thanks the outstanding staff at Story Cottage at Carey Grove, along with Paradigm Hospice, for their love and care the past four years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Bob’s name to Riley Children’s Hospital.
