Obituary

Robert "Bob" S. Reichert, 88, of Carmel, Indiana, died peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

Born to Walter and Lenore (Moody) Reichert on April 20, 1938, in Evanston, Illinois, Bob was the oldest of three siblings.

A 1956 graduate of Broad Ripple High School, he was an active member of several clubs including intramural sports and the stamp club. In 1960, he graduated with a degree in psychology from Wabash College where he managed the varsity baseball team, was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, and a campus leader participating in the Senior Council and Sphinx Club. He later served in the United States Army reserves.

Bob's career began at the Insurance Company of North America in Cleveland, Ohio. A few years later, he returned to Indianapolis to join his father at Reichert & Associates where he successfully developed and expanded the agency, eventually selling it to pursue his passion for golf.

Shortly after returning to Indianapolis, Bob met and married the love of his life, Linda. He always said he could not believe his luck and those close to him agreed. Bob could be heard to say that he was extraordinarily lucky in other ways, too, including the arrival of his daughter Amy. She cherished her dad's focused attention and pride in whatever interested her, like singing, a joy and talent they both shared. Bob fully embraced his role as a father and sought every opportunity to impart wisdom. On the golf course, for example, he'd instruct, "Keep your head down and follow through." Those moments, and many others since, continue to live as metaphors for life now.

Bob also loved to play ping pong, and he was remarkably good at it. When he wasn't playing golf, he could frequently be found in the basement playing ping pong with Linda or Amy. He loved teaching them the tricky shots and took great pleasure in sharing a game he had mastered and enjoyed so much.

Bob also relished in family traditions. When Amy was little, every night he told tales of "Friskie and Softie," imagined dogs, and later introduced their adventures to his granddaughter, Camille, of whom he was incredibly proud and loved immensely. When Camille would visit, Bob would encourage her swimming with impromptu races and run poolside to match her pace. Camille was the love of his life too.

Bill fondly recalls his older brother's doting humor, their shared love of golf, and how Bob invited the company of others often with a familiar rhythm that began with two scotches before dinner.

And that's when others might hear Bob say, "never call a bunker a sand trap," an example of his legendary wit that Peggy, his sister, said defined his presence among those who knew and loved him.

For more than 55 years, Bob was a member of Meridian Hills Country Club in Indianapolis where he served on the Board of Directors before moving to Fort Myers, Florida, where he participated as a long-time member of The Forest Country Club.

Bob was also a rules official for the United States Golf Association, an accomplishment of which he was especially proud. He worked his way up through the ranks and became highly respected for his deep knowledge of the game and the rules. He traveled the country with Linda to officiate USGA tournaments, an experience they both enjoyed and that gave them the opportunity to share their love of golf and time together. Bob was well respected and frequently consulted to make difficult calls when decisions were unclear.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Andrew) Reichert; his daughter Amy Reichert (Jake Dalphond) and his granddaughter Camille Dalphond of Magog Québec; brother Dr. William Reichert (Becky Beagle) of Spartansburg, South Carolina, and sister Peggy Reichert (Carl Ohrn) of St. Paul, Minnesota. He is preceded in death by his parents.
