Robert Eugene Johnson, 93, of Fishers, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on August 29, 2026. Bob was born on November 20, 1932 in Spencer, Indiana to F. Dwight and Jean Johnson. He graduated from Martinsville High School where he played three sports and was the Junior and Senior Class President. Bob continued his education at Wabash College where he proudly played football and was inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame. He was the Class Agent for his 1954 graduating class and, in 2006, was honored to receive the Warren Shearer award for Class Agents. He also served nine years in the National Guard. 

After college, Bob worked for 36 years for Indiana Bell and then Ameritech in various management and executive roles. Bob’s work with the Governor’s Education Task Force resulted in him being awarded the distinction of a “Sagamore of the Wabash”. 

Bob would say his greatest achievement was being happily married for 67 years to his wife, the late Helen H. Johnson. They met when Helen was Bob’s younger sister’s teacher. He was smitten immediately and they married on May 1, 1955. They were blessed with two daughters, Jane and Julie, who they adored and who adored them back in return. After Bob’s retirement, Bob and Helen divided their time between their condo in Florida, home in Indiana and traveling with good friends. Bob served eight years on the Condo board as President. Bob and Helen were avid sports fans and attended many games including Purdue Basketball, Indianapolis Colts, High School and NCAA finals games. Bob played squash for twenty years and then enjoyed playing golf for the next twenty years. 

Bob is preceded in death by his wife Helen; parents, Dwight and Jean Johnson; and brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Joan Johnson. He is survived by his daughters, Jane (Larry) Lannan, and Julie (Scott) Plepel; sister, Mary Jo (Bob) Hawkins; granddaughters, Lindsay (Megan) Plepel Morales, Mary (Tyler) Cahill, Allison (Jacob) Lewis and Kaylee (Juan) Plepel and great grandchildren, Dakota, Callie and Maya. 

Bob’s favorite comment was “Every day is a good day, some are better than others”. All who were acquainted with Bob or who loved him, would say every day spent with him was a great day. He wanted to be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and he lived a life as the best example of a wonderful man. 

A small immediate family service is being planned. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Wabash College.
