Obituary

Robert “Bob” H. DaPrato, 80, of Fishers, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on April 5, 2026. He was born on December 13, 1945, in Celina, Ohio, to the late Robert F. DaPrato and the late Marcella “Sally” Rains.

Bob was raised primarily by his mother and his grandparents, Humbert and Julia DaPrato.

He grew up in Celina, where he attended Immaculate Conception School, graduating in 1964. He attended the University of Dayton before transferring to The Ohio State University, where he eventually earned three bachelor’s degrees (psychology, microbiology, and education.) His final academic achievement while working at Columbus Children’s Hospital was to obtain a Master of Hospital Administration in 1980.

Bob’s professional career began as an educator, dedicating six years from 1968 to 1974 to teaching middle school science and high school chemistry in Celina and Dayton. His passion for health administration led him to Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana, where he served with distinction as Vice President for 25 years.

Growing up along the shores of Grand Lake St. Mary's, Bob developed a love for water skiing and fishing, passions that stayed with him throughout his life. These early interests blossomed into cherished traditions, including many fishing excursions with his high school friends at Indiana’s Lake Wawasee. His enthusiasm for adventure and family bonding extended to snow ski trips with his two sons to destinations including Michigan, Utah, Colorado, and Canada. A notable family milestone occurred in 2008 when Bob, his sons, and his brother all became certified scuba divers in Cozumel, Mexico.

It wasn’t until he worked at Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, that Bob met Janet Jones, the love of his life. They were married on April 7, 1979, in Columbus. Together, Bob and Janet moved to Richmond, Indiana, where they built a life centered around family and mutual devotion, raising two sons, David and Ross.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bob was known for his multifaceted interests and talents. He was a gifted woodworker, photographer, avid golfer, and stained-glass artist. He was also fond of playing cards, especially poker.

One of Bob’s many accomplishments was his Corvette Stingray, purchased in 1970—a rare acquisition at the time as its costs were equivalent to his first year’s salary as a teacher. He cherished this vehicle for fifty years, restoring it twice, and moving it around between homes and storage in Ohio and Indiana.

Bob’s legacy is indelibly marked by his love for his family and the impact he made in his various roles as educator, administrator, husband, son, grandson, father, brother, and friend. His devotion to Janet, David, and Ross, as well as his mother and paternal grandparents, was evident throughout his life.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and his grandparents. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Janet J. DaPrato; sons David (Tarra) DaPrato and Ross DaPrato; his brother, Larry DaPrato; his furry feline companion, Ava; and many dear family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will take place on April 18, 2026, at the DaPrato residence. For further details, please call Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens at (317) 849-3616, and we will forward information along to his family.
