Robert R. Atherton

Robert Randall Atherton,94, of Indianapolis peacefully went to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, surrounded by his family On September 6, 2023.  Robert was born July 4, 1929 to his late parents, Jeffe & Lois Atherton.  Robert served in the United States Army for 2 years, and then went on to become an electrical engineer & worked for the United States Navy over 30 years.  He obtained his bachelor's degree from Rose Hulman & his masters from Purdue University.  In 1955, Robert married the love of his life, Nancy Jane (Armstrong) Atherton & they spent over 64 years creating wonderful memories.  Throughout all of his life accomplishments, he was most proud of his family.  Robert was one of a kind & had a great sense of humor & everyone loved to be around him.  Robert will be dearly missed by all the lives has touched. 

He is survived by his daughter Cindy Lynn Clark (Tom) & son David Scott Atherton (Chrisie), 7 grandchildren: Chad Clark (Ashley), Andrea Fleetwood (David), Jill Becker (Daniel), Courtney Cruickshank (Matt), Cheyene Dearinger (Josh), Trenton Atherton & Payton Atherton & 10 great grandkids: Juliette Fleetwood, Benjamin Fleetwood, Gabriel Fleetwood, Lilly Clark, Nathan Becker, Ryan Becker, Carson Cruickshank, Kenzie Cruickshank, Gunner Dearinger & Carson Dearinger.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ellen, infant baby Mark & his loving wife Nancy.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 11,2023 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.  A celebration of life service will follow the visitation at 12:00 pm. All will be held at Franklin Road Baptist Church, 51 N Franklin Road  Indianapolis., Indiana. 46219. A private graveside service will be held following the Celebration of life service at Washington Park East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Robert Atherton fund at Franklin Road Baptist Church.
