Rita Frances Klug, born on March 31, 1927, in Terre Haute, Indiana, entered her eternal rest on January 10, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana. A proud alumna of Wiley High School in Terre Haute, Rita graduated on June 9, 1944, and soon after dedicated herself to supporting the war effort during World War II by working at the Terre Haute Ordinance Depot. Following the conclusion of the war, she embarked on a fulfilling career as a secretary, lending her talents to various organizations throughout Terre Haute and Indianapolis, IN. During her career, she worked for many organizations including General Telephone, Western Electric, Columbia Records, General Motors, the James Whitcomb Riley Association, and eventually retired from Carrier Corp, United Technologies in Indianapolis.
Rita was not only known for her professional accomplishments but also for her vibrant personality. She was outgoing, friendly, and blessed with a wonderful sense of humor. Her strong Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her interactions and relationships with those she met. Rita cherished time spent with her large family as well as her parish family at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Indianapolis. A passionate traveler, she proudly visited all 50 states and enjoyed remarkable voyages aboard the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth II, as well as memorable trips to Germany and Switzerland.
Rita is survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. These include her nieces: Barbara DeBernardo of West Lafayette, IN; Jean Blad (Ken) of West Lafayette, IN; Jean Malone (Hank) of Chillicothe, OH; Julie Ford (Harry) of Inverness, IL; Ann Viklund (Max) of Coulterville, IL; Patricia Flint (Alan) of Naperville, IL; Mary Bauer (David) of Denver, CO; Teresa Tarwater of Glen Carbon, IL; and Janet Rowe (Mike) of Terre Haute, IN. Her surviving nephews include Thomas Klug of Chappaqua, NY; John Schinkle of Las Vegas, NV; Raymond Schinkle (Judy) of Chillicothe, OH; Leo Schinkle (Mary) of Chillicothe, OH; James Klug of Terre Haute, IN; Daniel Klug (Janna) of Terre Haute, IN; and Richard Klug of Terre Haute, IN. Additionally, she is survived by many great and great-great nieces and nephews throughout the country, and many friends.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Marie A. Klug and Martin Klug of Terre Haute, IN, and her siblings: Helen Reidel (Peter), Maurice Klug, Justine Schinkle (Austin), Joseph Klug, Paul Klug, Mary Lu Tarwater (William), John V. Klug (Marilyn), Martin Klug, Jr, Martha Klug, and Raymond Klug (Dorothy).
Rita Frances Klug will be remembered for her remarkable spirit, unwavering faith, and the warmth she brought to the lives of those around her. Her legacy will continue through the love she shared and the many lives she touched throughout her long and fulfilling life.
A private family burial will be held in Terre Haute, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial donations be made to St. Christopher Church in Indianapolis.
