Rita Keever

August 2, 1944 — October 1, 2015

Rita Ferrell Keever 71, was welcomed into heaven on October 1, 2015 by her parents, Rita (Nana) and Bill (Daddy) Ferrell, and siblings, Judy Ferrell Gibeault and Eddie Ferrell. Born August 2, 1944 in Philadelphia, Pa., Rita was the fourth of 11 children. She attended St Joseph Catholic School, Fayetteville High School, and graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Masters in Counseling. She was employed at the Department of Veteran Affairs and retired after 35 years of service. Rita counseled family and friends with practical advice. She was a great listener and patriot who supported Veterans in word and deed. After her cancer diagnosis in 2010, Rita was encouraged to "stay the course" by the Indiana University Medical Staff. Coupled with her unwavering faith, love of family and the excellent, personal care delivery by her team, Rita tenaciously fought and outlived her diagnosis. She was uplifted by her "Prayer Warriors" and she was cared for by devoted neighbors, and sustained by the constant love and support of her children, siblings, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Karl E Keever, her daughter Sara Ferris (Matthew), Eddie Keever (Megan), her grandchildren, Haley, Susannah, James, Daniel Ferris, and Shaughnessy and Kate Keever, as well as her four sisters and four brothers. Visitation will be October 4, 2015, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple, 1305 E. Broad Ripple Ave. Funeral Mass will be held on October 5, 2015, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 6944 E. 46th St. at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C).
