Rita Jack

October 7, 1957 — August 20, 2023

Indianapolis, IN

Rita Jack, 65, of Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023 at IU Methodist Hospital. She was born October 7, 1957 in Indianapolis the daughter of James and Mary (Hicks) McCurry.

A 1975 graduate of John Marshall High School, Rita worked as an Administrative Assistant at Cool Planet Awnings in Indianapolis, which is owned by her cousin, Sherrie Kimsey. Rita’s family owes a debt of gratitude to Sherrie, who continued her compensation during her illness. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the American Legion Post #79 in Zionsville.

A brilliant artist, Rita’s drawings were superb. A prankster and humorist, she did stand-up comedy and was well-known for her natural ability to be truly funny. She enjoyed fishing and loved the beach. A wonderful cook, she “owned” the family Thanksgiving meal, doing all of it alone with exceptional results! She held the record for the best biscuits and gravy bar none.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her two sons, Corey Jack (Samantha Shank) of Avon and Tyler (Micah) Jack of Brownsburg; grandchildren, Lillian, Rowan and Piper Brown; her mother, Mary McCurry of New Palestine; two sisters, Carol Mooney of Indianapolis and Phyllis (Kevin) Barnaby of New Palestine; two brothers, Larry (Connie) McCurry of Indianapolis and Ronnie (Vicki) McCurry of Prescott, AZ; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who she loved dearly; as well as her cat, Jerry who loved her only.

She was preceded in death by her father, James McCurry; and her former husband, Tony Jack.
