It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Richard L. Pye, formerly of Carmel, IN, beloved father, loving grandfather, Uncle and friend who passed away on Sunday, July 20th at the age of 91 in Fort Wayne, IN. Born in St. Albans, West Virginia, the youngest of five children to Albert and Louise Pye.

Richard proudly served in The United States Air Force and served in The Korean War. He traveled the world in the service and always had an amazing story to share of his experiences that his children and grandchildren are privileged to carry with them in their memories.

Richard worked as a District Sales Manager for American Airlines for over 40 years, and it is at American Airlines where he met his wife, Cherie, of 53 years, before preceding him in death in 2009. Richard will be lovingly remembered for his kind heart, sense of humor and strong will.

He is survived by his sons Tim (Analyn) Pye of Carmel, IN Todd (Michelle) Pye of Vonore, TN and daughter Truly (Eric) Hamlin of Fort Wayne, IN as well as his three grandchildren, Andrea Pye, Tom Pye, Carter Hamlin and several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 9700 Allisonville Road. Indianapolis, IN on Friday, July 25th.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Humane Fort Wayne Animal Shelter or The Humane Society for Hamilton County in his memory.
