Richard Phillip 'Rick" Eilert 64, Indianapolis, passed away December 21, 2012. Rick was born in Indianapolis, IN on April 15, 1948 to parents, Norman T. and Blanche E. (Joslen) Eilert. He was a graduate of North Central High School and earned his associate degree from Indiana Business College. Rick served his country in the army during the Vietnam War and was a Purple Heart recipient. During his career, he worked as a Systems Analyst Programmer for Indianapolis Water Company. Rick married his wife, Janice Susan Bryan Eilert on December 14, 1973. The two shared a wonderful life together raising their daughter, Amanda and enjoying their grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as "Oppy".
Rick was a member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church; the Indy Mopar Club, Hoosier Plymouth Club, American Legion Post 497; North Park Masonic Lodge where he was a 32nd degree mason. Rick had a tremendous love for old cars, being outdoors and his dogs and cats.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Norman T. Eilert. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Susan Eilert; daughter, Amanda (Darrell) Berry; mother, Blanche E. Eilert; mother-in-law Pat Bryan: grandchildren: Shaun Whitlow and Cierra Berry; siblings: Ronald (Kathy) Eilert, Carol (Les) Taffe, Tricia (Rodger) Stinson and Mike (Pam) Bryan; uncle, Paul Joslen; and many other loving family and friends.
Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park North, where his funeral will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Washington Park North Cemetery.
