Richard L. Metz, 66, Zionsville, formerly of Westerville, OH, died December 13, 2011 at the Hearth at Tudor Gardens, Zionsville, IN after an extended illness.
Born June 4, 1945 in Edgerton, Ohio, Richard was the son of the late Chester and Marie Metz.
After earning BS and MBA degrees from The Ohio State University, Richard worked for the University in business management roles for 30 years, retiring in 2003.
Richard and his wife of 44 years, Mary-Jeanne, enjoyed traveling, hiking, riding bicycles, and ballroom dancing before he developed a progressive, degenerative neurological condition that physicians were unable to diagnose. He had previously survived stage 4 malignant melanoma in 1997.
During his years of decline, Richard never lost his thoughtful, gentle nature or the deep love he had for his family. He served as an inspiration to many.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Adrienne and Christopher Urbanek, and grandchildren Alex and Marissa of Indianapolis.
The family sends a special thank you to staff members of The Hearth at Tudor Gardens, Harbor Light Hospice, and Right at Home for their care and support during Richard's final days.
Arrangements are entrusted to Flanner Buchanan Zionsville, 105 W. Pine Street, Zionsville, IN where the family will receive visitors Friday December 16, 2011 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Scott Tyring of Zionsville United Methodist Church, will immediately follow visitation.
