Richard G. Lime

Richard George Lime, 84, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026 at Demaree Crossing Assisted Living Facility. Richard was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 6, 1941, to parents Marion and Willie Lime. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Donna “Darlene” Lime; his brothers, Jim, Bill, David, and Don Lime; and his granddaughter Mikayla Lime-Pindell.

Richard is survived by his children; Michael (Wendy) Lime of Indianapolis, Donna (Daryl) Caldwell of Greenwood, and Susan Lime of Duncan, SC. His brother Marion (Ann) Lime of Beech Grove. His grandchildren; Donavyn Vaughn, Destinie (Steven) Vaughn, Krystal “Paige” Lime, Keith (Kasey) Sears, Cora (Tate) Stovall, Courtney Sears, Bailey (Dakota) Forrest, Chloe Pindell, Gracie Pindell, and Austin Howle. He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Richard found his greatest joy in his family. He met the love of his life, Darlene, in 6th grade. They were married on January 28, 1961 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Indianapolis. Together they built a partnership rooted in love, respect, laughter, and steadfast support of one another. They both loved to spend time at Cordry-Sweetwater Lake with their family. The children and grandchildren have many fond memories there throughout the years. Richard and Darlene loved to travel together. They enjoyed going on cruises and all different types of vacations, often with family. Richard always knew how to have a good time and make others laugh around him. He loved a good joke as long as it was not played on him, playing euchre, corn hole, bowling, and staying busy with the clubs and organizations where he was a member (American Legion, Knights of Columbus, VFW). He loved Notre Dame football and attended many games throughout the years. Richard and Darlene loved attending their children and grandchildren’s sporting or dance events. Richard’s devotion to Darlene and his family remained the focus and priority of his life. He would do anything for anyone at anytime to help and not ask for anything in return. He was the most selfless man and believed in giving back. Richard and Darlene volunteered at the Our Lady of Greenwood’s food pantry for several years. They also donated to multiple charities and organizations throughout the years.

Raised in Indianapolis as one of six brothers, Richard’s childhood shaped his lifelong values of hard work and perseverance. Richard was hired by Ford Motor Company and worked there for 40 years. He worked in skilled trades as a cutter grinder before retiring in 2004. Richard also was an active member in the UAW union. In the 1980’s Richard also received his real estate license, but ultimately decided not to pursue a career in real estate.

Richard and Darlene bought their first house on Hogan Drive on the eastside of Indianapolis. After they moved into the home, the first piece of mail they received were Richard’s draft papers for the Vietnam War. Richard was drafted in 1966 and served for 2 years, earning the rank of Sergeant. Richard drove a tank on the front lines of the war. Richard rarely spoke of the war, but he was proud to be a veteran. Richard was an active member of the American Legion and VFW. After retirement, Richard found great pride in serving on the Honor Guard. Richard continued working on the Honor Guard until his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2018. With no family history, it was determined that Parkinson’s was caused from the use of Agent Orange in the Vietnam War. It was an unfair diagnosis for a man drafted into the Army. Richard did take every step to stay active and tried Rock Steady boxing for Parkinson’s patients. It was hard for him and the family, especially when walking, communication and speaking were very difficult.

A visitation will be held from 4pm to 8pm on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Flanner-Buchanan Washington Park East. A mass of Catholic Burial will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, with a visitation from 12pm-1pm in the narthex of Our Lady of Greenwood Church, 335 S. Meridan Street, Greenwood, IN. He will be laid to rest immediately following mass at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
