Richard LaMar

Richard H. LaMar Sr., 92, Indianapolis, passed away January 22, 2014. He was born March 13, 1921, in Indianapolis, the son of the late Lewis and and Myrtle (Matlock) LaMar Wood. He married Dorothy (Yaryan) LaMar on July 14, 1944. Dick served in the U.S. Army in World War II as military police. He retired in 1986 from Martin Marietta as an operating engineer. He was a 52 year member of the American Legion Post #3 and IUOE local #103. Dick was an avid fan of Bobby Knight and Larry Bird, the Indiana Pacers especially the early ABA days, and the Indianapolis Colts. He loved playing euchre and bingo, BOWLING, and coffee. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy LaMar; six children, Richard H. (Pamela) LaMar Jr., Dorothy (Gib) Downton, Donna (Harold) Pendleton, Denise (Kenny) Litherland, Dennis LaMar, David (Kim) LaMar; 20 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren; and three brothers, Fred (Shirley) Wood, Doyle (June) Wood , and Leonard Wood. He was preceded in passing by two brothers, Lonnie LaMar Jr. and William Wood. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 27, 2014 at Flanner and Buchanan – Broad Ripple, 1305 East Broad Ripple Avenue. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Indianapolis Zoo, Attn: Community Donations, 1200 West Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46222.
