Richard L. “Dick” Tewksbury, 92 of Indianapolis, passedaway Thursday, August 25, 2016. Dick wasborn December 27, 1923 in Wabash, IN to the late Tharon and GenevieveTewksbury. He attended PurdueUniversity, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity and graduated in1948 from Indiana University. Dick was aWWII veteran of the US Army Air Corp.
Dick worked in the insurance industry for many years, asboth an agent and financial advisor. Hereceived his CLU in 1983 and served as a consultant to R.I.P.E.A.
Dick was a member and lay leader at St. Luke’s UnitedMethodist Church and founding father of Wesley Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Columbia Club,Rotary Club of Indy Northeast, Service Club of Indianapolis and theContemporary Club. Dick was a Republicanrepresentative on the WashingtonTownship Board and a member of the Washington Township School Foundation, servingon the Advisory Board for 26 years. Heserved on the State Office Building Commission, as a director of the 500Festival and was a Republican precinct committeeman. Dick was named a Sagamore of the Wabash byGovernor Edgar Whitcomb.
Family and friends are invited to gather at St. Luke’sUnited Methodist Church from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, August 31 and from10:00 am to 11:00 am Thursday, September 1. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Thursday at the church.
Dick is survived by his wife, Marion; children, RichardL. Tewksbury, Jr., Marcia Sue Moya, Jeffrey Ross (wife, Aileen) Tewksbury,Geoffrey P. Cheek, Jon W. (wife, Arlene) Cheek and Cynthia L. (husband, Brent) Vautaw; 15 grandchildren; 6great grandchildren. He was preceded indeath by his wife, Helen Katterhenry Tewksbury.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made tothe St. Luke’s United Methodist Church Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to Flanner andBuchanan-Broad Ripple.
