Richard L. Kirkman, a beloved member of the Indianapolis community, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on August 4, 1942, in Indianapolis, IN, Richard was a man whose kind and generous spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Richard dedicated over 30 years of his life to the Indianapolis Water Company, where he was known for his commitment and work ethic. His professional journey was complemented by an educational foundation that began at Broad Ripple High School, followed by an Associate Degree in Architectural Drafting from Lain Technical Institute.

In addition to his career, Richard proudly served in the United States Marines, embodying the values of duty and service. He was an active and proud Mason and Shriner, contributing to various community efforts. Among his many accomplishments, he volunteered at the Broad Ripple Art Fair for several years, demonstrating his dedication to enriching the cultural fabric of his community.

Richard's passions extended beyond his professional life. He cherished spending time with family and friends, creating memorable moments that would be fondly remembered. His love for dogs and the outdoors was a testament to his joyful approach to life, as was his enthusiasm for playing golf. Those who had the pleasure of knowing Richard experienced his vibrant personality, full of life and laughter.

He is survived by his daughter Kelly Hoshaw and her husband, Bret Hoshaw. He is also remembered by his sister-in-law Sara Kirkman and his nephew Jeff Kirkman, along with his wife Mary Kirkman. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Marie Jackson Kirkman and Eugene Kirkman, and his brother James Kirkman.

Visitation services for Richard L. Kirkman will be held on July 7, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan- Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, located at 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250. Following the visitation, an additional memorial event will take place at the same location from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

As we remember Richard L. Kirkman, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by compassion, service, and love for those around him. His legacy will continue to inspire and resonate within the hearts of all who had the honor of calling him a friend and family.
