Richard Jay Swan was born in Columbus, Indiana on November 26, 1952, to Charles and Mabel (Simmons) Swan. Though an exuberant lover of life, Richard jumped into the next great adventure on October 2, 2022, after a helluva brawl with cancer. Always full of curiosity, he loved learning, especially photography, and pottery and leaves behind his beautiful creations. Richard also loved baking and shared his unique pies generously with family and friends. He always cared for children and animals with love, kindness, and humor. His sense of humor was a great blessing to all who knew him. Richard leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Janice (Stricker) Swan, and two daughters Kelsey Swan (Mark Petty), and Sara Swan. He also leaves his beloved siblings, Anney Swan, Sally Swan (Jeff Severson), Bill Swan (Irene Weisberg). He also will be terribly missed by his in-laws, the extended Stricker clan and many nieces and nephews, and his beloved pets, Bassett Clowns, Duke, and Emma and Kitty Frenchie. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, in thanksgiving for the blessing he was to all, at Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis 46250. Memorial gathering from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard's honor to the Indianapolis Public Library Foundation or The Parks Alliance of Indianapolis.
