Mr. Richard "Harry Hippie" Murray was born on June 18, 1932, the youngest of seven to Flem and Virginia Richards Murray in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was educated in the Indianapolis School System where he excelled in sports such as baseball, basketball and football at Crispus Attucks High School. Harry Hippie was employed for many years as a Hod Carrier for Brody & Sons and later retired from Allison Transmission after 30 years of service where he was a member of UAW Local 933. He professed a hope in Christ and was baptized at Mount Olive Baptist Church and later became a member of Cathedral of Praise Bibleway Church of God in Christ. Harry Hippie never met any strangers and meeting him was a MARVELOUS experience. Whenever you visited his home, he was always made you feel right at home. You never saw him without a smile on his face, words of wisdom and encouragement. He was an artist in his own right and produced many pictures and walking sticks from whatever materials were available to him. There's one thing that we will never forget about Hip, and that's the fact he LOVED HIM SOME BOOBIE. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sons, two sisters and three brothers. Harry Hippie started his continuation of life on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Methodist Hospital at 3:57 am at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 13 days. His memory will always be cherished by his devoted wife of 32 years, Valerie Murray; 5 daughters, Deborah Murray-Smith, Jennifer Williams, Shelly Jones, Ronella Jones and Carletta Reeves; two sons, Richard Murray Jr. and Victor (Twana) Murray; seventeen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
