Richard Lee Gallagher

Richard “Dick” Lee Gallagher, 88, passed away September 16^th, 2023. He was born May 6^th, 1935, in Indianapolis, to parents Thomas and Clara (Whisker) Gallagher.

Dick graduated high school in Indianapolis and continued his education at Pearl River Community College in Mississippi.

Dick proudly serviced his country in the United States Marines.

He worked as a police officer for IPD for 28 years before retiring. He then went on to work for the Trustee Department for 12 years, where he retired a second time. Dick remained involved in the Fraternal Order of Police for many years.

In December 1975, he married the love of his life Delores Parks (Fall). They shared 48 wonderful years together. Dick and Delores had an adorable morning ritual where Dick would gently wake his wife by singing to her.

Dick was a strong, loving gentleman. He loved being a Father, Grandfather, and Great- Grandfather. Dick and his family enjoyed traveling, especially to Vegas, where some trips were more lucrative than others. He was an excellent card player, and a very talented singer. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing basketball, and continued to watch his favorite teams on TV after his college years ended. In his free time, you could find him on the golf course with his friends.

Dick will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Delores Gallagher; his children Debbie (The Late Gary) Morgan, Terri (Danny) Chowning; stepchildren Dennis (Sherry) Parks, Sheldon (Karen) Parks, James “Jim” (Kay) Parks, Todd Parks; daughter in law Nancy Parks; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

He is preceded in death by his parents; his children Richard and Thomas Gallagher; stepson Rodney Parks; and his eight siblings.

Visitation for Dick will be Friday September 22^nd, from 11-1pm at Flanner Buchanan Memorial Park. His funeral service will follow at 1pm. He will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery.
