Richard Francis Hoff, 90, of Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. He was born on October 10, 1932 in New Alsace, IN to the late Francis and Matilda (Hoffbauer) Hoff.
Dick was a 1950 graduate of the ‘original’ Cathedral High School and enlisted in the USAF. He served honorably during the Korean War and earned his BS from Butler University following his discharge. Dick married the love of his life, Patricia Mattingly on May 25, 1963. They met while attending a Young Catholic Adults (YCA) bowling outing and celebrated 56 years of marriage before her passing in 2020.
Dick retired as the Manager of Business Loans for American United Life in 1991. He was an avid supporter of all athletic events, especially those his granddaughters were participating in. Dick was a tried-and-true fan of the Indianapolis Indians, the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards, especially euchre and Michigan Rummy, which he enjoyed with his YCA friends the “Over the Hill Gang”.
He is survived by his son, Michael (Susan) Hoff; granddaughters, Rebecca (Alex) Battiato, Emily (Patrick) Rivelli and Nicole Hoff; great-grandchildren, Oliver and Adalind Battiato. Dick is also survived by his sister, Luella Knueven and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Patricia; and siblings, Alfred Hoff and Edna Slaymon.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 4-7:30pm at Flanner Buchanan – Broad Ripple, with a Rosary Service at 7:30pm. A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 9:30am at Christ the King Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to Christ the King Catholic Church.
