Richard F. "Dick" Schulz

Richard F. “Dick” Schulz, 84, died peacefully at home on February 10, 2022, and went to be with his Heavenly Savior. He was the eldest son of Helmut and Violet (Murphy) Schulz, born September 12, 1937, in Indianapolis. He attended Sacred Heart Elementary and graduated from Manual High School in 1955.

Dick was employed 43 years as a printer for the Indianapolis Star/News, retiring from the composing room in 2001. The next 17 years were spent as, “ticket taker and hot dog maker” at Dakota Landing Golf Course, where he made many friends. Dick was a member of the Indiana Air National Guard and the Typographical Union.

Dick survived by his wife, Sondra “Sandi” (Beineke-Shannon), whom he married February 14, 1988. Other survivors include two brothers: Joseph (Dixie) and Thomas (Rita); sons: Bryan (Beth) of Bargersville, and Edward, of Indianapolis; two stepsons: Brent Shannon (Allison), of Lexington, KY, and Darren Shannon (Heather), of Yucca Valley, CA; five grandchildren, one step-grandchild, and seven great-grandchildren.

Dick is preceded in death by a brother, Bernard (Donna).

Dick and Sandi were members of Community Church of Greenwood and its Worship Choir for 28 years, and more recently, members of First Church of the Nazarene of Indianapolis.

Visitation will be held at First Church of the Nazarene, 9401 E. 25^th Street on Friday, February 18, 2022 from 1pm – 4pm with a funeral service to follow at 4pm, officiated by Rev. Dean Jones. The family asks that guests of the services please wear masks.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Old Bethel Food Pantry or your favorite charity.

Arrangements made by Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East. There will be a private burial at Washington Park East Cemetery.
