Richard Eugene Green

Richard Eugene Green, 75, of Speedway, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2014. He was born on April 1, 1939 in Newton, IL to William and Mary (Heck) Green. Richard graduated from Casey High School in 1957 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1959. He began working for Marathon Oil in 1967 and retired after 32 years of service. Richard was a member of the High School Road Church of Christ and was very active in trying to save the USS Forrest Sherman DD-931, the ship on which he served during his military career. He was also an avid woodworker, enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling and most importantly, enjoyed time spent with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Rita (Drake) Green; children, Pamela Jo Green, Rick Allen (Karen) Green, Robert Eugene (Kim) Green; and grandchildren, Richard Eugene Green II, Rachael Marie (Johnathon) Faulk, Rick Allen (Kim) Green, Jr., Brock Allan (Akasha) Green, Randall Lacy (Haylee) Green, Renea Elissa (Adam) Colter; great-grandchildren, Isaak Gabriel Faulk, Emma Ann Green, Amelia Grace Green, Odin Lee Green, Gage Allan Green. Richard is also survived by his mother; brother, Jim (Pat) Green; sisters, Daisy (George) Burkhardt and Irene (Vern) Waller; several nieces and nephews. Visitation for Richard will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Flanner and Buchanan – Speedway from 5 until 9pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon at 1pm, also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to either IU Health Hospice or to the USS Forrest Sherman Foundation: 720 Reddy Circle Bel Air, Maryland 21014.
