Richard "Dick" Young, 88, of Indianapolis, left to live with our LORD and Savior on December 15, 2014. He was born in Pullam, KY on August 3, 1926. Dick was the son of Richard and Margie (Kays) Young. In 1940, he moved to Indianapolis with his family, where he attended George Washington High School. Dick dropped out of high school to serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II. During his service, his ship was sent to retrieve the survivors and victims of the U.S.S. Indianapolis. Dick married Gilda Fern Eldridge in 1949. They had nine children, R. Michael, Phillip, David, Mark, Larry, Garry, Paul and Cindy. His daughter, Judy Berry, preceded him in death. Mr. and Mrs. Young have 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Dick has one surviving brother, Harold Wayne; and is preceded in death by his sister, Louise Schaedel and brothers, Bob and Paul. Besides serving in the United States Navy, Dick worked at the Chevrolet Stamping Plant, Citizens Gas and Coke, and managed Eagle Bowl and Eagledale Shopping Center. He gave his life to Christ in 1976 and could often be heard on a local Christian radio station explaining the Bible to thousands of listeners; Dick brought several souls to Christ. Visitation for Mr. Young will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 4pm until 9pm at Flanner and Buchanan – Speedway. Funeral services will be conducted at High School Road Church of Christ on Saturday at 12noon; visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service, also at the church.
