Richard “Dick” W. Feldt, 88, of Carmel, IN, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, December 19, 2021. He was born May 6, 1933, in Madison, WI, to the late Harvey and Bernice Feldt. Dick attended University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating in 1956 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and Wisconsin’s marching band, with whom he traveled to the 1953 Rose Bowl. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Dugway Proving Ground, Dugway, UT, and was honorably discharged in 1958. He began his engineering career at General Motors (GM)/AC Delco in Milwaukee, WI. On June 18, 1960, Dick married Marilyn “Lynn” Mehlum. They started their family in Wauwatosa, WI. In 1974 the family relocated to Carmel, where Dick continued to work for GM/Allison and later Rolls-Royce until his retirement in 1996. For the past 25 years, he was active in The Sertoma Club of Broad Ripple, serving as Treasurer for 12 years. He was a founding member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church and a former president of Brookshire Homeowners’ Association. Dick loved nature, wildlife and the National Parks. He especially enjoyed family camping, playing bridge and golfing. He was talented with computers and stayed abreast of emerging technology. He enjoyed visiting historic locations and cities, and proudly tracked the growth and development of his adopted hometown of 47 years - Carmel. Many knew him as a man of integrity and great patience. He was someone his family could always count on. He enjoyed helping others and was often relied on by friends for IT support. He enjoyed mixing drinks to share with friends and family, having a fire in the fireplace, and reading the Wall Street Journal every morning. Winters were spent watching the Colts, Pacers, Badgers and Boilermakers. In his later years Dick spent every Monday morning at breakfast with a group of close friends. Dick is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lynn Feldt; children, Michael Feldt of Carmel, IN, Linda Feldt of Mountain View, CA, and Gregg Feldt of Chicago, IL. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Saint Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Carmel, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to the time of the service. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN.
