Richard 'Dick' Proffitt

Richard "Dick" Proffitt, 72, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014. He was born April 6, 1941 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Henry M. and Anna J. Hasch Proffitt. Dick proudly served his Country in the Army. He also protected and served the people of our city by serving as a Police Officer for the Indianapolis Police Department. He was a Lieutenant, and retired in 2005 after 36 years of faithful service. He was a man of many interests, some of which included piloting planes, motorcycling, racing, bicycling, and traveling. He is dearly loved and will be missed. Surviving is his wife of nearly 40 years, Teresa D. Sheehan Proffitt; children Greg Proffitt, Kristin (Greg) Woodruff, Shannon Proffitt, Kristina Miller, and Michael Miller; sisters Joyce Reiners and Shirley Landwerlin; grandchildren Jacob Woodruff, Jared Woodruff, Hailey Woodruff, Hannah Bumbalough, Autumn Riggs, Chelsea Woods, Samantha Bryan, Tanner Horoho, Shelby Horoho, Hunter Miller, Alexa Miller, and Sophie Miller; great-grandchildren Audrey Woodruff, Aaron Woodruff, Chloe Woodruff, Justice Woodruff, Alana Woodruff, and Nadia Grace Miller. In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by his brothers William, Charles, and Glenn "Ray" Proffitt. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Indianapolis or the Wounded Warrior Project.
