Richard “Dick” Carter

78, Indianapolis, IN., passed away May 21, 2016. Richard was born at Indianapolis, IN June 5, 1937, son of Herschel E. and Floy L. (Lockhart) Carter, of Owen County, IN. He attended school at Lopossa, in rural Owen County, Eminence, Amo, Owensburg, and Solsberry, all in Indiana. At the ripe old age of 17, he decided he HAD to see the world. He joined the Navy. He served from 1954 until 1958. Serving at Great Lakes, IL., Bainbridge, MD., (Radio School) Patuxent River, MD., Neport, RI., (USS Charles J Badger) Norfolk, VA., (Precommissioning School) and Brooklyn, NY., (USS Compass Island). While serving at Brooklyn, he met Sylvia L Bingham, who was to become his wife on April 28, 1957. He is survived by his wife, Lynn; daughter, Debra Carter (Chuck) Jennings; grandchildren, Jason (Laura) Cagle, Joseph (Lydia) Cagle and Wendy Cagle; great-grandchildren, J Micheal Ross, Brittany Austin, Bridget, Emily and Anna Cagle, Ivy Rain Breining and Noah Cagle. Richard retired May 1, 1994 after 34 years as a claims auditor at UPS. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters Betty May and Judith Carter and a brother, Robert Carter. Services will be announced at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan – Decatur Township.
