Richard “Dick” Towner, age 85 of Noblesville, IN, passed away on September 1, 2021. Richard was born in Martinsburg, WV in 1936. He was a self-made man who did his undergraduate work at Shepherd University and received his Master’s Degree from George Washington University. His love of science resulted in an active career as a research biochemist with Walter Reed, Ft. Detrick Biological Center in Frederick, Maryland, and 30 years at Eli Lilly in Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Edna Towner and brother, James Towner.
Surviving Dick are his wife, Carolyn, the love of his life, sons, Craig (Alana), Mark (Jenny), daughter, Kathy and five Grandchildren, Lauren (John) Allen, Cole, Addison, Luke, Benjamin Towner and one Great Grandchild, Rhett Allen. All held him in the highest regard and loved him dearly.
Dick’s science prowess was only surpassed by his love and attention as a husband and father, his sense of humor, affection for dogs, and many hobbies he enjoyed.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Noblesville.
Visitation will be held from 11am until 1pm, Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis), where services will immediately follow beginning at 1pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Hamilton County and the American Cancer Society.
