Richard Dee Sircy

July 20, 1937 — May 15, 2019

Indianapolis, IN

Richard Dee Sircy, 81, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away May 15, 2019. He was born July 20, 1937 in Sumner County, Tennessee to Ellis and Florence Sircy; the youngest of 7 children.

Though born and raised in Tennessee, Richard moved to Indiana with his family in his late teens. He met the love of his life, Hilda Christine Belton, in 1955 at a local diner where she worked. It was love at first sight for him, he told his family and friends he was going to marry her before they had even had their first date. It took some convincing but his persistence paid off, Chris finally agreed to go out with him. They spent the next months getting to know each other, the rest of their whirlwind romance is history. They were married just a few months later and spent 64 beautiful years together, through thick and thin. They remain deeply in love at the time of his passing. Richard was drafted into the United States Army on March 12, 1958. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, Expert Badge (Sub Machine Gun), and Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle) during his service as a Heavy Vehicle Driver. He moved up the ranks to a Specialist 4 and was honorably discharged on March 11, 1964. Our nation is forever grateful for his service and commitment to our country. Richard began his driving career as a city bus driver, but went on to become a semi-truck driver. He worked for various companies during his career, ultimately retiring from ANR in 1995. He belonged to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the Masons. Upon his retirement, Richard became the unofficial handyman of his neighborhood. He worked on items from cars to lawnmowers and completed various projects for those around him. He also enjoyed playing golf, but mostly he cherished his family. He was his sister’s caregiver until her passing and deeply believed in being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His sudden passing leaves an empty space in the hearts of those who were blessed enough to meet him, but peace can be found in knowing he lived a beautiful 81 years during his time with us and we will see him again some day.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Florence Sircy; son, Richard E. Sircy; grandson, Stryker; siblings, Willie (Ernest) Young, Wilford (Nellie) Sircy, Winnie Sircy, Joseph (Opal) Sircy, James (Mary) Sircy, and Betty Cox. Surviving to cherish his memory are loving wife of 64 years, Hilda Christine Sircy; children, Kimberly Hutchinson, Jeffrey (Shanon) Sircy; grandchildren, Jamie, Zachary, Tara, Jerry, and Damon, as well as a host of extended family members and friends.
