Richard “Dick” Darling, 81 of Carmel, passed away at his home Wednesday, August 4, 2021, surrounded by his family. Dick was born July 10, 1940 in Geneva, NY to the late La Vern F. and Jessica O. Darling. He was a US Air Force veteran.
Dick earned his Bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Oregon and his Master’s degree in personnel counseling from Miami of Ohio. He was a large account insurance broker for various large brokerage houses, in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Wisconsin and Indiana, retiring in 2013.
He enjoyed traveling, having visited 33 countries and 45 states. He loved running, especially with his dog Gabi, watching Oregon Duck sports and spending time with his family.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 14 at Flanner Buchanan-Carmel, where friends are invited to gather beginning at 10:30 am.
Dick is survived by his wife, Claudia; daughter, Kimberly (husband, Thomas) Mack; son, Jeffrey (wife, Tiffany) Darling; grandchildren, Erin Mack, Katherine Mack, Allison Mack, Maxwell Darling and Isabella Darling; sister, Diane Thatcher; niece, Kristen Thatcher.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Hospital for Children or the Indianapolis Humane Society.
