Richard Conaway

October 10, 1934 — March 18, 2013

Richard W. Conaway, 78, of Zionsville, IN, entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 18, 2013, at St. Vincent's hospital in Indianapolis where he was surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born on October 10, 1934, in Arcadia, IN and was the 7th of ten children born to Ralph and Ruth Conaway. Dick served in the U.S. Navy from 1953-1957 on the USS Randolph and earned an honorable discharge in 1960. He then worked for years with major construction companies as a skilled carpenter. Dick retired from Marathon Rock Island Oil Refinery as a lead operator. He was a hard-working man who enjoyed spending time outside especially around his bonfire. He loved nature, fishing, hiking and spending time with his family and friends. Dick was an active member and volunteer of the American Legion Post 79 of Zionsville and of the VFW, Post 910 of Lebanon. He was well known in the community and is leaving behind countless friends. He will be lovingly missed by his two daughters Karen Meineke and Karla Wallace (Charlie), five beloved grandchildren Krista, Anthony, Katherine, Christian , Rex and his loving great grandchildren. His three remaining siblings include sisters Mary Edna (Kinder), Laura (McVey), Rita (Browning) and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 1-3, Saturday, March 23 at Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville with a service celebrating his life to follow at 3 p.m. Please visit www.flannerbuchanan.com where you may sign the guestbook or share a memory of Dick.
