Richard Carl Dobbs of Indianapolis, passed away on July 28 due to complications from both cancer and pulmonary issues. He was 64 years old. Predeceased by his parents, Richard K. and Mary McClester Dobbs. He is survived by his sister, Terry Dobbs Kemp (Alan) of Atlanta.
Early in his life, Rick developed several hobbies which brought him joy throughout his life. As a young boy, Rick spent his summers in Michigan, learning to fish with his dad. He always looked for ways to go fishing throughout his life. Another hobby of Rick’s was building model cars and motorcycles, particularly Formula One race cars. At his home, he had a showcase of model cars which he built over the years. His quick wit, inherited from his Dad, always endeared him to both friends and strangers alike with a quick retort or joke. In his later years, he became a great cook and was a neighborhood favorite with his steaks from the grill.
Rick worked at Miller Pipeline for 36 years, where he worked on some of the most critical gas line projects in Indianapolis. Later in his career, Rick’s health began to fail, driving his decision to retire in 2014.
A private graveside service will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery, where he will be interred with family members. In lieu of flowers and in honor of his love for dogs, donations can be made in Rick’s memory to IndyHumane.
