Arizona native son, Richard Boyd Passey, was the eldest child born to Richard Levi and Florence Rogers Passey in Lehi, Arizona on August 5, 1937. He died of medical complications after 84 wonderful years of life. He is survived by his bride of 62 years, Jacqueline Paula Arnold Passey, their six rotten children (and their spouses): Gayle (Mike #1), Paula (Larry), Richard Thayne (Katie), Janet (David), Diana (Daniel) and Kimberly (Mike #2), fifteen fine and reasonably good looking grandkids: Ethan, Abby, Mary Ellis, Ben, Hannah, Sam, Spencer, Valerie, Grace, Grant, Emma, Ashleigh, Dalan, Morgan and Harper, and eight perfectly precocious great-grandkids: Clara, Christian, Mack, Dean, Jameson, Eve, Callum and Wesley.
After mercifully completing his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Colorado State University, Dr. Passey taught at competing national football powerhouses Texas and Oklahoma as a clinical chemist and a professor of pathology. He was the scientific director of the laboratory at the University of Oklahoma’s medical school hospital in OKC for 30 years. He had a very prestigious career including serving as the President of the American Association of Clinical Chemists, helping to set the national linearity standards used today for blood and urine value ranges for medical tests. He was a prolific anti-caffeine researcher and published many often-cited scientific articles. After retiring, he and Jackie moved to avoid tornados and to join family in Fisher’s Indiana.
Richard was a deeply faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a missionary, Bishop, counselor in the Stake Presidency, Family History leader, and Sunday school teacher. He loves the Lord and always served his family and community with humility and tender kindness. He brought light to all who knew him, and he will be missed.
