Richard David Boehme, Age 86 of Carmel, IN; formerly of Beavercreek, OH, passed away March 3, 2016. Dick was born June 20, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri to Oscar and Anna Boehme. Dick is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Boehme; niece, Linda Vojir; and nephew, Tommy Thorson. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen; daughter, Carol (Ken) Shuss of Denver, CO; son, Doug (Lynda) Boehme of Carmel, IN; granddaughters: Leah (Joe) Marone of Tega Cay, SC; Luisa (Rob) Standley of Zionsville; Holly Shuss of Jackson Hole, WY; Olivia Shuss of Denver, CO; great granddaughters: Kaiya and Annabella Marone; sisters: Mary Alice (Tom) Leather of Homosassa, FL, Rachel (Rich) Vojir of Cherry Hill, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
Dick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri in 1952. Then was commissioned second lieutenant in the Air Force at WPAFB Air Technical Intelligence Center, forerunner of Foreign Technology Division (FTD), as a propulsion analyst. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force in June 1954, he was hired back into his former position working in the area of turboprop engines. He was chief of the Aerodynamic Propulsion Branch, senior propulsion systems analyst, and group lead of the advanced propulsion group. He received the Scientific Achievement Award in 1968 and the Exceptional Civilian Service Award in 1980. He retired in 1985. In September of 1985, he worked at the Engineering and Industries Technology Division of Sinclair Community College as an adjunct instructor, retiring again in 1996.
Prior to their move in August of 2015 to Sunrise Senior Living in Carmel, Indiana, Dick and Helen enjoyed sailing, scuba diving, boating, water skiing, snow skiing, and travel.
Dick was expert at building, remodeling, and repairing but during his retirement, he re-discovered his passion for creating intricate steam engines and models out of metal. He was true craftsman.
His love and devotion to his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was obvious to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 12 noon at Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel, 325 E. Carmel Dr. in Carmel, Indiana.
