Richard A. Bugher

September 19, 1934 — September 26, 2011

Richard A. Bugher, 77, a lifelong Indianapolis resident, died Sept. 26, 2011, after a decline in health following heart disease and a stroke. He was born Sept. 19, 1934, to Theresa (Classick) Bugher and Charles Bugher. Survivors include brothers James and William Bugher; nieces Mary Valdez, Ellen Miller, Janet Smith and Susan Marvin; nephews Bill, Bob, Paul, Dan, David, Steve and Tom Bugher; and numerous great- and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother Larry Bugher and sister-in-law Alice Bugher. Known as "U.D." to his nieces and nephews, Dick was a loyal friend and fan. His friendships with Hugh John Delaney and Carroll Rance, for instance, spanned six and seven decades, respectively. Dick rooted for Indiana University and Cathedral High School, of which he was a trustee and proud 1952 graduate. He loved the New York Yankees and in 1948 led fellow St. Anthony 8th-graders on a bike trek to an exhibition game at Victory Field to see his hero, Joe DiMaggio. Except for two years (1957-1959) in the U.S. Army at Fort Ord, Calif., Dick lived on South Warman Avenue his entire life until 1995. He enjoyed a long career with Mechanics Laundry, starting as a route driver in 1965 and retiring as project manager in 1996. His interests included fishing, puzzles and two beagles, both of which he named Sam. Visitation will be held at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Speedway on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 from 5 until 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 1pm in St. Anthony Catholic Church, Indianapolis. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, send contributions to St. Anthony Catholic Church, 337 N. Warman Ave., 46222, or Cathedral High School, 5225 E. 56th St., 46226. You are invited to go to the Guest Book page to pass along your personal message or tell a story. Sincerely, -Your friends at Flanner and Buchanan
