Remus Ray Coon, 89, of Indianapolis, passed away October 1st, 2026, in Van, West Virginia. 

He was a lifelong resident of the Indianapolis Eastside. 

On April 14th, 1960, Ray married the love of his life, Nancy Shuey. 

Ray was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army, serving tours in Germany, two tours in Vietnam, and stateside, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a valued member of the VFW Post 261, American Legion post 495, and the Rod and Gun Club of Fort Harrison. 

He loved to fish and hang out with his buddies. He was a loving husband and father. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arminda and Odel Coon, brother Cicero, Bill, Jack and sisters Charlotte, Irene, Marjorie, and sons Stephen and Michael. He is survived by his wife Nancy Coon, daughter Michelle Frey, granddaughter Victoria Coon. 

Visitation will be 12-2pm at the VFW Post 261 in Lawrence. Military honors will be rendered at 2pm.
