Raymond "Pete" Winegard

Raymond “Pete” Winegard, 91 of Indianapolis, passed peacefully on May 8, 2018. He was born on November 23, 1926 in Rushville, Indiana to the late Porter and Crotelle Winegard. He is preceded in passing by his loving wife, Joyce Winegard. Visitation will be Monday, May 14, 2018 from 4PM until 8PM at Flanner Buchanan-Speedway, 2950 N. High School Rd. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 11AM at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, 6000 W. 34th St., with visitation one hour prior.

I’m That Old

Grandchild expressed joy of counting,

Showing five fingers of aging;

She then asked of my aging…

“Wow,” she replied to my counting.

How old am I, you just might ask?

I can’t answer but with a task.

For to measure one just by years,

Cannot see past the veneer.

I’ve reached upon that certain age

Where many miles have filled the gauge;

Oh, nowhere near enough to trade,

But sure wish some miles had stayed.

I’m old enough to know better;

And young enough to feel better;

Old enough for some creaks and groans;

Young enough to make milestones.

Watched our aging sons and daughters;

Grown more in love with their mother;

Faith, hope, love are best from Above;

And I’ve learned the best is love.

I’ve reached the years that come golden,

Enjoying joyous grand-children;

All those years past of parenting,

Can now relish these tykes rewarding.

I’m old enough to have had some;

And still young enough to lose some;

Old enough for many mem’ries;

Young enough for more mem’ries.

I’ve known elder folks preceding;

And younger folds since where I’d been;

I’m old enough to truly care;

And young enough for some dare.

How old am I, you might ask?

Old enough to have faced some tasks…

And know that life is not a race,

But a journey your soul must face.

How old am I, you ask?

My reply is how young is my soul?
