Raymond F. "Bunny" Cadick

November 11, 1931 — July 25, 2025

Indianapolis

Well, I finally went and did it. At 93, I decided it was time to take the long nap on July 25, 2025 - surrounded (and possibly pestered) by the people I loved most. I gave them years of marriage, a lifetime of jokes, and enough opinions to last several lifetimes.

Born on November 11, 1931 (yes, on Veterans Day, how fitting), I proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate Second Class. I was part of the top-secret-ish US Navy Airship Devron Squadron ZX-11 down in sunny Key West, Florida. And no, I still can’t tell you what we were doing down there - but let’s just say it made for some very interesting stories.

After hanging up my Navy blues, I took up numbers - public accounting, to be exact - and built a solid career crunching numbers. I co-owned Cadick and Williams, and ran a tight ship, minus the swabbing of decks. I did it all with integrity, good humor, and only minimal grumbling.

I was preceded in death by my Daughter, Nancy Erbrich Cadick, and I leave behind my better half (don’t tell her I admitted that), Barbara Cadick - my partner in crime for 72 years. Also sticking around are my sharp-as-a-tack sister (Wink Wink) Louise Foster, my son Rob Cadick, my daughter in law LeighAnn, Rob’s life partner Julie Nash, four grandkids, six great-grandkids, my nephew Bob Foster, and my niece Debby Thomas Foster - along with a few generations of people who’ve somehow inherited my stubborn streak and my love for a good argument.

I’ll be remembered for my “quiet strength” (read: selectively stubborn silence), my deep devotion to family, and the light hearted gleam in my eye when I was winding someone up just for the fun of it. If we ever crossed paths, you probably got teased, challenged, or made to laugh - and you’re welcome. I loved fishing as well as telling my fish stories to all that would listen. Another hobby of mine was playing video poker at the casino, slowly eating into my Son’s inheritance. I am glad I was able to share my strengths (Listed Above) to all at the American Legion Post 500 and as well as bitching to all that were winning money on pull tabs (Because I never won, well except the one time pictured in my memorial pamphlet)

A celebration of my extremely well-lived life will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd West Drive, Indianapolis. I’ll be accepting visitors (or nosy people) from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with a proper send-off at 2:00 PM. Tissues optional. Laughter encouraged. Stories mandatory.

Oh for crying out loud people, dry up the tears and keep my best memories.
