Obituary

Obituary in English:

Rafael José Ruedas

September 10, 1947 – October 27, 2026

Rafael José Ruedas, 79, of Noblesville, Indiana, passed away on October 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Rafael was born on September 10, 1947, in Maracaibo, Venezuela, to Marcial Pineda and Glacira Rueda. He lost his father at a young age and was raised with great love and sacrifice by his beloved mother, Glacira, alongside his siblings Esperanza, María Lourdes, Héctor, Noé, Israel, and Magaly.

From a very young age, Rafael demonstrated the entrepreneurial spirit that would remain with him throughout his life. As a young boy, he rode through the streets on a bicycle selling cigarettes that he purchased from Lilia, who would later become his mother-in-law. He also helped sell and distribute the food prepared by his mother to help support the family.

Through hard work, perseverance, and a strong business vision, Rafael was able to purchase a truck and began working in school transportation. Some time later, he acquired his first minibus and gradually continued to grow until he founded his own company, Transporte Rueda, which years later became the Zulia 12 Transportation Cooperative. His life was always a story of hard work, dedication, and perseverance.

Rafael was known for his elegant style. He enjoyed fine fragrances, impeccably polished shoes, and automobiles, one of his greatest passions. His dedication to keeping his cars clean and shining was as characteristic of him as the way he dressed and presented himself to others.

Above all, Rafael always kept his family and his wife’s family close to his heart. He was a wonderful neighbor and an excellent employer. Throughout his life, he helped many people and remained attentive to those around him, leaving memories and lasting impressions on everyone who had the opportunity to know him.

Rafael was also a joyful man with a strong and unforgettable personality. He enjoyed gatherings and celebrations, especially when the music of Billo’s Caracas Boys, Orquesta San Souci, and Súper Combo Los Tropicales, among others, was playing. His loud, powerful voice, his laughter, his humor, and his unmistakable habit of giving everyone a nickname made his presence impossible to overlook.

He loved sports and had a special affection for baseball. Those who knew him will remember him in many ways: as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, neighbor, businessman, and companion. But to many, he will always be “El Muñeco de la 9B,” the nickname by which he was known and loved for so many years.

The final months of his life were especially meaningful, as he was blessed to spend them surrounded by his loved ones. After so many years and so many stories, he was able to enjoy his family once again, receive their love, and create new memories with them until his final day.

Rafael leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of all who loved and knew him. However, he also leaves behind a life filled with stories, lessons, laughter, hard work, generosity, and memories that his family will carry with them forever.

Rafael is survived by his beloved wife, Cruz de Rueda; his children, Marycruz, Jillis, Rafael José, Rafael Ignacio, Patricia Alejandra, and Diego Alberto; and his grandchildren, David, Viviangel, Nataly, Juan Diego, Marielena, Liam, and Luna, who will continue to honor his memory and the legacy he left in their lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Nerio, Héctor, Magaly, and Noé.

Rafael’s visitation will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Flanner Buchanan – Hamilton Memorial Park (Prairie Waters), 4180 Westfield Rd., Westfield, Indiana 46062.

The funeral service will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at the same location. Rafael will then be laid to rest at Hamilton Memorial Park.

His voice may now be silent, but his laughter, his humor, his stories, and the love he left in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him will remain forever.

Rest in peace, Rafael.“El Muñeco de la 9B.”
