Prentice "Mac" McGinnis

Prentice "Mac" McGinnis, passed away on July 13, 2024, surrounded by family, in Greenwood, Indiana. He was born on July 28, 1939, in Vine Ridge, Tennessee, to Elbert and Ollie McGinnis. Mac lived a life full of love, laughter, devotion to his family.

Mac served in the Navy for 2 years as part of the construction crew on Midway Island. During his time in the Navy, he played a vital role in building a runway for airplanes. A proud provider for his family, Mac always put others before himself and sent most of his paycheck home to support his loved ones.

He was known for his exceptional driving skills as a mail carrier for USPS of 37 years. Before retiring, he even received an award for driving 1 million miles accident-free in his trusty parcel truck. Beyond work, Mac had a passion for playing the acoustic guitar and was gifted with music - a talent that brought joy to those around him.

Described as generous, fun-loving, and caring by those who knew him best, Mac will always be remembered for his extraordinary personality and unwavering devotion to his family. He leaves behind cherished memories that will be forever treasured.

Mac is survived by his children, Tonya Jean Shorney, Carlos James McGinnis, Lisa Bower (Mike Shelton), and Dr. Johnny McGinnis; grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda (Max), Andrew, Becca, Emily, Alexander, Wesley, Miles, as well as great-granddaughter, Audrey. He is also survived by his sister, Shelby and brother, Leroy.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 37 years, Jewelene; and his sisters, Marsha and Shirley. 

In honor of Mac's life and legacy, visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 17th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan - Decatur Township in Indianapolis. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, July 18th at 1:00 PM at the same location followed by burial at Washington Park East Cemetery.

Although Mac may have passed on from this world, we know that he now lives on in the heavenly world. Until we meet again, we will cherish your memories.
